“Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place.”
- 1 Corinthians 15:1&2 (NLT)
Do ever feel that there is something missing in your life, no matter what you accomplish, or do, you’re left with an empty feeling, almost as if you are constantly trying fill that void?..
…Have you considered Jesus?
The Bible tells us that human beings were created by God, in God’s own image and likeness, but we have all turned away from God and fallen from our original purpose. We, as human beings, long to worship something, and if it is not God, it is something else:
- Spouses and other relationships
- Sports Teams
The list could go on forever. But, when we do this, we break away from God and replace Him with our own desires. Turning away from God and living our lives in a manner that completely disregards God is known as sin, which makes us subject to the judgement of God. Unfortunately we can not fix our own situation, the Bible tells us we are slaves to sin, and therefore unable to return to God, unless we atone for our sin. Here is our dilemma, the price for just one sin is death.
The situation seems pretty hopeless, doesn’t it? How does a good God, a God of love, leave his own creation in such a mess. It’s simple, He doesn’t. The Bible tells us that God sends his own son to pay the price for our sins. Jesus of Nazareth, God’s own son, God himself, came to earth and lived the perfect sinless life. After three years of teaching and preaching he was betrayed, arrested, tortured, and buried, in accordance with the Scriptures of, what is now known as, the Old Testament. He paid the price for our sins, making it possible for us to be brought back to God.
Why We Believe
Now, you may be asking why should I believe this? Do you know how many people have died, how many “innocent” people have been executed; why should I believe that this one man who lived over two thousand years ago is anything special? And you would be right to ask such questions. Why Jesus? When every other teacher, politician and religious leader since the beginning of time has died and stayed dead. Jesus stands alone, Jesus was risen from the dead by God, and seen by over 500 witnesses. He then ascended into heaven, and is still alive to this very day. If someone conquers death, they might be a person worth listening to.
So, we have all this information, what do we do with this? Scripture says that all who trust in Jesus and confess that He is Lord will be saved! If you are convinced that Jesus is God, and payed the price for the forgiveness of your sins, and he rose from death, then we ask you to confess Jesus as Lord and ask forgiveness for your sins, and you will be saved.
Once You Believe
If you have come to believe in Christ you will find that your desires have changed. Your greatest desire now is to know and love Jesus; the bible calls this being born-again. Like any new-born you need to be fed and looked after, the Bible is the Christian’s source of spiritual feeding and you should find a good community of Christian believers to plug into, and can help mentor and disciple you. If you are here in the Kentville/Aldershot and surrounding areas, Bethany Memorial Baptist would love to be a part of your Christian journey.
